City Split

http://pulsobeat.com/tag/don-cerati/ 2016/2017 – In my first year and a half after coming to live in Australia, I wandered the city capturing everyday scenes while holding a small mirror in front of my camera. Each image in the series combines perspectives from a fixed but liminal space, where one looks forward and behind simultaneously.

Bandar Labuan Sydney and Melbourne randomly play out before me while I am an anchored observer, capturing the movement of the city and its parts. In the space of a frame, the city transforms itself. I’ve migrated, but it is through these images that I cross from stranger to familiar. They map a journey over the threshold: from discovery to routine, from confusion to ease, from anticipation to monotony. They are a document of the subterfuge of the self required by migration.
